Drug-testing at festivals should be a legal requirement

Sadly, her case hasn’t been the first when it comes to accidental drug-related deaths at nightclubs and festivals.

The government’s refusal to accept the reality of drug-taking keeps putting punters at risk and event organisers should, therefore, be legally required to provide free and anonymous drug testing.

To prevent deaths and hospitalisations of attendees, so far the NGO the Loop is one of the only organisations that offer anonymous testing.

The Loop encourages festival goers to bring substances to their pop-up labs for analysis to find out what exactly is in the drugs they bought, which helps prevent unwanted overdoses.

Just like welfare tents are already a legal requirement, the Loop’s presence should be a requirement for all events.

The NGO’s on-site testing is carried out by a team of experienced volunteer chemists under the guidance of its director Fiona Measham.

The reality is that party drugs will continue to have a presence at music events and the ignorance of ignoring them will only result in many more unnecessary deaths.
